Cummins ISB CM850 (2003-06) Fault Code: 2961 PID: 412 SPN: 412 FMI: 15 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) temperature – Data Valid but Above Normal Operating Range, Least Severe Level.

Possible causes:

1)A fouled EGR cooler
2)High coolant temperature
3)Low coolant level
4)Malfunctioning EGR valve
5)Malfunctioning EGR valve position sensor
6)High exhaust temperatures
7)Coolant-and-water mix
8)Stuck closed variable geometry turbocharger.

NOTE: This fault code will probably not be active with no load on the engine in the shop. The engine must be loaded to trip this fault code and determine if the malfunction has been found and fixed.

Possible repairs:

1)Repair or replace the leaking component.
2)Drain and refill the cooling system with the proper mixture.
3)Replace the EGR valve.
4)Clean or replace the EGR cooler.
5)Replace the variable geometry turbocharger.
6)Replace the EGR differential pressure sensor.
